Within Blicke/Glances an arteducation  project – in collaboration with children, young people and grown-up Newcomers temporarily located at the ASB-Shelter Alt-Moabit and the KW Institute for Contemporary Art – I was focusing on the contribution to create possibilities for action that initiated, allowed and supported encounters between people from different backgrounds, generations and spaces.

At the same time, it was about critically reflecting on ourselves and further developing the variety of collaborations and formats, processes and approaches, accompanying the process, understanding myself as constantly learning in the matter of “Critical Whiteness”, see Sandrine Micossé-Aikins: 7 Things You Can Do To Make Your Art Less Racist (2014). Aicha Diallo (ed.), in: The Living Archive: Cultural Productions and Spaces Dossier, January 2013.

Children, teenagers and young adults from Alt-Moabit and external artists as well as students set out together to find the connection between  different locations of the art institution “KW institute for contemporary art” and the emergency shelter and what a contact could look like: exploring the connection from the shelter via the Brandenburg Gate to the works of art and the exhibitions running.

Views, perceptions and impressions were collected, arranged and redesigned in artistic processes. Various finds along the way and from the visits to the exhibitions resulted in a collection of material that each of the participants processed into their own album. Experiences, images, impressions, sensations and perceptions are transformed, stored and their own collection principles developed.

The album becomes an archive of traces of actions, events and encounters. It stood for an emigrating memory and was at the same time a portable museum.

At the end, a permanent wall installation was installed and presented in the emergency shelter. 300 pictures of the joint workshops can now be seen on it in the central meeting and dining room of the accommodation (see a part of it on top of this site). A printed group album was published with a circulation of 400 copies. Both elements were developed and produced together with 90 participants**.
